highly recommended if you're short on time
I highly recommend this full day trip starting w a visit to the hobbiton movie set. We were so lucky it didn't rain until the very end of the day. No need to bring your breakfast or lunch as you can get it at the shires rest cafe, a huge range of food available and not expensive. Our driver, Matt, was super knowledgeable, helpful, professional and efficient. He even showed us things to do and places to visit when we arrived at Rotorua and pointed out where i needed to catch the intercity bus. Our next stop was wai-o-tapu the thermal wonderland. You have plenty of time to do the full walk around the geothermal park and take heaps of pictures, no need to rush. The track is clearly marked but there are a lot of stairs up and down if you do tracks 2 and 3. Theres a cafe and giftshop. A great day highly recommended, in fact i recommend any cheeky kiwi tour i have done quite a few and they're all friendly and professional.

Dave was awesome! We had originally only booked Hobbiton but he recommended adding on Te Puia and totally worth it. We left our jacket on the bus and he was able to facilitate getting it back to us.

Excellent road trip filled with fun facts and stories
Had a bit of a scare this morning as the pickup was late by 30min past original time. Despite this, I’d still rate the experience excellent. The team was responsive and emphatic, so it all worked out in the end. The tour experience was great, our guide Ben was friendly and attentive, with incredible knowledge of the history, nature, flora & fauna and legends around Rotorua, which made the road trip that much more enjoyable. Hobbiton was such a highlight to see the movie comes to life IRL, the town felt alive and real, and the interior of the Hobbit holes were extremely detailed, exquisite. Would recommend!

Auckland to Hobbiton tour

Absolutely amazing tour! When they say tour, they meant tour starting from the pick up at your accomodations. Got to know not only about the Hobbiton movie set but also a little unexpected tour of NZ/Auckland itself! The ride there was not boring at all and thanks to our guide.. got to say this has to be the best tour ever

Amazing! Auckland to Rotorua via Hobbiton Small Group Tour (One Way)
What a fantastic experience! loved being able to transfer with my luggage from Auckland to Rotorua and include such an iconic experience at Hobbiton! our driver guide picked a great rest stop on our way for breakfast allowing for the perfect amount of time to order food enjoy eating it and to use the washroom. our guide was very knowledgeable along the whole trip and provided very clear instructions as to where and when to be so we didn't miss our Hobbiton entrance. our group had only 8 people in the vehicle which allowed for plenty of space to stretch out for the drive. the vehicle also included USB ports to charge devices. Hobbiton was such a surprise and blew me away! this is a must stop to experience while in New Zealand! I would highly recommend Cheeky Kiwi and the Auckland to Rotorua via Hobbiton Small Group Tour (One Way)

Excellent Tour and Outstanding Guide
The experience was very good. We really liked our guide, Liam, from the moment he picked us up, thanks to his friendliness, his help with our luggage, and his punctuality. The tour was excellent; Liam made an effort to share interesting information about the places we passed along the way. When we arrived at the Waitomo Caves, we really enjoyed the experience, and afterward we had the opportunity to visit an electrical substation that we didn’t know was part of the itinerary, which we also enjoyed very much. The transportation was very good and fast to our final destination.

A fab day out!
Had an absolutely fabulous time!! I went solo but the small group nature of the trip meant it was a great experience. Our tour guide Cam was incredible! So knowledgable about a huge variety of topics - from New Zealand history, farming, culture and much more!!! I’ve already booked my next cheeky kiwi tour!

Stunning views and informative guide!
Great drive and rich with luscious greenery. We really valued the info that Grant (our guide) offered and his helpful tips. There was the ability to opt in to the Te Puia experience, so give it a thought if you have the time. Grant showed us around town as well, giving us the sort of friendly service only a Kiwi could provide. Would definitely recommend and say that it is worth the money!

Memorable & Thankful experience
The tour started timely with our guide Simon picking us up at the meeting place at 6am. He's friendly and cheerful. He shared and chat with the guests who are from a diverse group such as US, Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, etc. The drive was smooth & scenic and he always share with us what's ahead in advance before the next stop. He looks out for the guests and checked that everyone is present. We would also like to thank Simon for going the extra mile in dropping us at our hotel in Rotorua & helping to carry our luggages. The Waitimo caves is "wow, woo, ah...." just can't pinpoint any words to describe what I saw and felt there & then. I am glad to have been there to view such magnificent & iconic destination! Thank you for the constant reminders to us so as not to forget the activity & most importantly for the seamless coordination. Kudos to Simon & the team for doing a great job!

This was fab! From start to finish Danny was amazing. He was full of knowledge and enthusiasm created a great atmosphere for the tour. The stops along the way were amazing and everything went smoothly including a lovely packed lunch and super comfy mini bus. I would definitely recommend this trip for anyone wanting to get a deeper insight into Milford Sound and the drive along the way!

Brilliant!!!!!
This trip was a lot of fun, it was relaxing, easy and educational. Shu, our bus driver shared her knowledge of the birds and nature as we drive past it. The size of the bus meant that it was more personal, with everyone getting to interact. Although it was a long day, Shu made sure we weren’t bored with frequent stops, choice of music, quizzes and stories. Getting onto the cruise at Milford sound was made very easy and understandable by Shu, it was straight forward and organised. We had an incredible time all round.

Incredible experience
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Milford Sound with Cheeky Kiwi. It is one of the most beautiful landscapes we have ever seen. The day was very well organised and we felt looked after. Our tour guide Amanda was welcoming, friendly and extremely knowledgeable - providing lots of interesting information about the county and local area. We would highly recommend.

Long trip but well worth it. Milford Sound is truly beautiful. We were blessed with good weather and so the cruise was enjoyable and generally comfortable. Our tour guide on the road trip, Joe, gets top marks. He was knowledgeable, helpful and showed concern for our safety and comfort. Well done!

Incredible views with a great tour guide
We had a great trip with our guide Chris. He was very knowledgeable and provided the most amazing soundtrack during our drive, perfectly lining up songs that captured the atmosphere. We even had a game of his own version of Eurovision on the journey back which was great fun. We had a yummy vegan lunch supplied, and grabbed a vegan wrap at the cafe we stopped at on the way.

Must do!
Such an amazing day! The drive was beautiful and there were plenty of chances to stop and take pictures. Our guide/driver, Jacob was great. The provide lunch was also very good. The boat tour was also a success. Though it was windy, we were able to stay on the top deck and fully enjoy the whole experience. We opted to fly back which gave an unmatched view of the mountains and lakes. 10 out of 10 experience.

Absolutely Amazing Milford Sound Experience – A Must-Do from Queenstown
We had an absolutely amazing Milford Sound tour from Queenstown, and it was truly one of the highlights of our New Zealand trip. From start to finish, everything was extremely well organized and enjoyable. Our guide, Kristina (with a K), was fantastic — very knowledgeable, friendly, and engaging. She did an excellent job explaining all the scenic spots and landmarks along the way between Queenstown and Milford Sound, sharing interesting insights that made the journey both informative and enjoyable. The Mercedes 16 seater minibus was very comfortable, and the lunch provided was excellent, honestly one of the best lunches we’ve had on a guided tour. Even though it was a bright, sunny day, we were still lucky enough to see plenty of waterfalls, which made the scenery even more spectacular. The Milford Sound cruise itself was absolutely breathtaking and exceeded all expectations. On the return journey, we opted for the scenic flight experience, which was the perfect way to end the day — the views were incredible and truly unforgettable. Overall, this tour was outstanding and is a must-do for anyone visiting Queenstown. Highly recommended.

Sheer beauty of Milford Sound
My husband and I really enjoyed our minibus/cruise/minibus tour of Milford Sound yesterday with Danny from Cheeky Kiwi Tours. From the moment that we were picked up in the morning, we knew we were in capable hands. The tour was so well-organized and Cheeky Kiwi had thought of everything to make our experience an enjoyable one- including squeegees to wipe the condensation from the minibus windows so we could see the scenery outside, to a really tasty picnic lunch catering for our dietary requirements. Danny made the tour itself a very relaxed experience. He demonstrated an extensive knowledge of the local area and of the local culture. Danny showed genuine interest in learning more about his guests and what had brought them to Queenstown. He delivered the tour in a professional and punctual manner with good-humour and an authentic appreciation of the magic of the South Island of NZ. Danny also tried his hardest to get us on a flight back to Queenstown once we were at Milford Sound (our previous flight had been cancelled). The scenery on the way to Milford is next level spectacular and awe-inspiring. We were allowed plenty of time to stop and really take in the scenery at each of the photo spots. We were blessed with sunshine and blue skies which made our cruise in the fjord a really enjoyable experience. Was able to see the beauty of SouiNee Zealand by automobile and plane. Both drivers were excellent at explaining what we were seeing and offering us breaks to use facilities, stretch out legs and eat/drink. It was beautiful weather to top it off!

Just Do It! A Stunning Nature Experience
A fantastic experience! The best tour I've ever been on. We were in a small 16-seater bus and the tour guide (Shoe) was very warm, friendly and informative and clearly loves her job. We stopped at several very scenic places along the way which made the long trip to Milford interesting and not at all tiring. We were lucky enough to spot several native NZ birds at places we stopped at including a Kaka and a Kakapo. The Milford Sound boat tour was absolutely stunning and really enjoyable. We had a dry day but due to rain a couple of days earlier, there was still plenty of waterfalls. As the boat was small, it could get in close to the waterfalls which was a wonderful experience. We were lucky enough to see dolphins and seals too. The weather was cold, but having a down jacket and a water and wind proof jacket on, plus a warm hat meant that I was still warm outside on the decks. I also had my bird watching binoculars with me which added to the whole amazing experience. The lunch provided was excellent and catered well for different diets. The flight back was awesome and really worth it. As the weather was clear, we had fabulous views of the mountain tops, glaciers, lakes and hills. The pilot was great with her commentary. All up, I found Cheeky Kiwi Travel a really excellent company to deal with. I'd booked with them through Viator. They were very quick at responding to my email questions and I really liked that they picked me up close to my accomodation and then after the flight they dropped me right back to where I was staying.

Stunning views and a memorable trip
Had a wonderful trip to Milford Sound led by Dean from Cheeky Kiwi. It was such a memorable day. It was fascinating to learn about the natural landmarks during the drive to Milford Sound and also about the local wildlife. There was a good amount of toilet breaks too. The cruise was amazing - the scenes are simply breathtaking. We were fortunate to be able to fly back and I could t recommend it enough - the views from the skies were awesome! A highlight of our trip.

We booked onto the trip short-notice and were so glad that we did! Shura was an excellent guide who is incredibly knowledgeable and engaging. I particularly loved to learn about botany and birds. Can’t beat local knowledge
Jason and Angelo took us on a day trip from Queenstown to Milford Sound. They were fantastic hosts and guides , providing a very enjoyable and informative day full of interest, fun and a deep appreciation of the sublime landscape we travelled through Jason’s personable approach and his local knowledge was a real highlight , making the day relaxed and enjoyable despite the ambitious agenda . The small group tour is an excellent way to engage with this overwhelmingly glorious landscape.

Jason was a great guide. Picked us up at Te Anau and the trip to Milford Sound was amazing and fun with lots of stops and Jason sharing his knowledge and life experiences. Totally recommend Jason as your guide and the small bus was so much better than a larger vehicle. Great lifetime experience!!

Good time. The itinerary seemed challenging but in the end was very manageable and fun.
I was a bit afraid as I am pregnant and the itinerary said 3 hours of walks and I was scared but they ended up dropping us off at two easy walks - Hooker Valley and Tasman Glacier Lake for 1 hour each time. They picked us up and dropped us to the next location and a Cafe stop at the end for a rest break. It was perfect and not too difficult, a 70 year old couple also in my tour seemed alright to do it. The more fit people could go ahead to do more if they wanted and attempt the steeper walks. The snacks provided were simple nut bars and chips and water but really plentiful and helped us to keep energised. The stops they chose were excellent, the driving was not too long in between. The ice cream at the orchard was really excellent and fruity, I got the yoghurt one and really delicious and fresh. The salmon farm is fun but the prices were a bit high, but you don't have to buy any salmon. I did like the Creamy chicken pie but I dunno if it was the best in NZ. The ice cream really probably was. The tour guide was overall good. Nice guy, from the UK funnily. His stories were more detailed than another tour guide I had. He didn't talk too much and this allowed us to rest in the van a little which was good. My only disappointment is in the itinerary it said "Lake pukaki is known for lotr shoots and we will point this out to you" and the guide did not know these spots. Also, not due to the tour company but the weather wasn't good for the view. There were too many low clouds to see the mountains. If you see a cloudy day I might recommend trying a different day as the mountains are really what you want to see. Overall still fun and a good time though.

Beautiful Trails, Great Guide, and Stunning Views
We went on the Mt. Cook tour today and had a fantastic experience overall. The entire route was incredibly scenic, and we really enjoyed both trails—the Hooker Valley Track and the Tasman Glacier Walk. Each walk offered stunning views and was well worth it. Our guide, Jess (Jessica) was excellent—she explained everything clearly and shared interesting history and details about each place we visited, which made the journey even more enjoyable. Ending the tour with ice cream was a lovely touch and a perfect way to wrap up the day. All in all, it was a really well-organized and memorable tour, and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Great experience highly recommend
Really good experience with a lot of good stops on the way there and back. Stopped for toilet many times, cafe with great sausage roll, many photo opportunities beyond what was listed on Viator - nice surprise. Our tour guide was Chris and he was extremely knowledgeable and I found that the way he presented the information was highly engaging. Was great that it was a small group tour which I didn’t expect. Description was slightly unclear as to whether the hooker track would be an option (to only walk the part that is open) - it ended up being only Tasman glacier as our stop which was still great but could have been clearer on the description. Feedback is that some stops were rushed e.g. 20 mins at the orchard, high country salmon Overall highly enjoyable and would recommend.

I had a great time on the afternoon tour from Mt Cook to Queenstown. Sonya was the best guide and had the coolest stories and facts to share. Definitely a fun ride!

The tour guide was very friendly and kind. She helped me book my trip back from Mt. Cook to Queenstown, even though I had trouble booking it online. She enthusiastically drove us to many hikes around the Mt. Cook area and pointed out which ones were worth visiting. She was also kind enough to drop me off at my hostel. I’m looking forward to watching her movie. It was amazing to hear her story, moving from Russia and transitioning from being a farmer to becoming a tour guide. Unfortunately, I forgot her name, I’m not very good with names, but I sincerely wish her all the best in life.

The best ride!
Very comfortable ride and great commentary about the areas. The photo opportunity stops and rest breaks were nice and evenly spaced. The only downside was the I had to take another vendor from Christchurch TO Mt. Cook (I traveled one way from Christchurch to Queenstown, with an overnight stop in Mt Cook village)!

Wonderful tour
Tour guide Marry was excellent at storytelling. During the journey, she shared the story of Matakauri, which was truly touching. She also provided information about Arrowtown and Queenstown, and gave informative answers to our questions about possums. The tour was well-organised and everything ran on time.

No stress trip from Mount Cook to Queenstown!

Amazing Drive with Stunning Scenery
Beautiful opportunity to incorporate a tour into a transfer from Queenstown to Christchurch. Our tour guide, Dean drove the first leg to Mt Cook. He was friendly, super knowledgeable and warm. Lots of great information. The scenery (albeit rainy) was magnificent with stunning landscapes. We did 2 hikes, and loved them both. Drivers were switched and then Joe drove the final leg to Christchurch. A lovely young guide who provided great information. Lake Tekopa was stunning. It was a long day but so worth it. Joe dropped us off right at our AirBNB. Super impressed with the company and the guides. We’d highly recommend them!

Great company, tours and people. My second tour with them. Small group, very flexible in pick up and drop offs. Kristina is a great tour guide. Lots of stories and facts about the area. She went out of her way to get my bag that I left on one of the stops. Great favour that I really appreciate, or my vacation would be ruined. This would never be possible with the big bus. Scenery is amazing. We had time to do some trail hiking. Bus change went smoothly. They even changed the bus driver at the end (it’s only allowed to drive for max 14 hours in NZ) so that everyone would be dropped off at our hotels. I have booked several other tours with Cheeky Kiwis as I trust they will be doing a great job. Thank you, guys!

Had a great day. Picked up on time from my hotel. Mt Cook National Park was stunning. Did the Tasman Glacier look out walk and the Kea Point track. Plenty of other stops on the way too. The two drivers (think it was Jay and Jonathan) provided commentary throughout and displayed that kiwi humour and wit. A great way to see a beautiful part of the country.

Overall, great family experience
Felix and Nick were great guides. Though we had a rainy day at Mount Cook, Felix was accommodating and offered alternative activities for guests to enjoy. Transition also between transportation was smooth. Lastly, the transportations were spacious and comfortable though it was packed. Will definitely recommend.

This tour was honestly just incredible! They picked me up from my hotel in a fancy van and we saw some amazing photo stops up to Mt Cook. They took me to see the Tasman Glacier and also some of the Hooker Valley track. The end is closed because they are building a new bridge but the bit we did was awesome! The guide was so helpful and friendly. Really good company.

Kimberly, our bus driver, is an absolutely wonderful person. She is remarkably strong and dedicated, effortlessly handling large, heavy luggage on her own —truly impressive! Despite the chilly early morning, she greeted us with warmth and expertise, instantly brightening our day. She also offered invaluable advice and thoughtful suggestions to help us plan our hike along the Mount Cook Walking Track. Though the day started cloudy, her cheerful encouragement kept our spirits high, and we were delighted when the sun finally broke through by midday. The Best Guide in Auckland - Pearl is Amazing!
We had an incredible experience with Pearl. Even though we were part of a group tour, she made the entire trip feel like a private, VIP experience. From start to finish, Pearl was attentive and flexible, constantly checking in to see what we were interested in rather than just sticking to a rigid script. She even went above and beyond the scheduled time to ensure we didn't miss a thing. A really nice tour, our Guide Grant was fab. I really enjoyed our stop at the black sand beach, breathtakingly beautiful. Davenport is a cute little town, Mt. Eden wonderful. The place we had lunch at was very cool - it was outdoors with a beach-modern feel to it. This was my 5th Cheeky Kiwi tour in 2 weeks and I have loved them all. I go on another tomorrow! I’m a solo traveler and I’m so grateful for their dedication to making sure I’m enjoying myself. For not canceling tours when not at capacity (I’m traveling during the off-season). I can easily say they have been a big part of how amazing my trip has been.

A lovely day tour to Coromandel
Had a great time on this small group tour to the Coromandel Peninsula. Pearl was a fabulous guide, I especially appreciated the group text to keep us up to date on everything. The hike to Cathedral cove was a challenge, but beautiful and the hot water beach was crazy chaos. It was a long day that ended in ice cream with stunning nature in between.

This was such a wonderful experience, Mark was a great tour guide, very friendly, chill and really brought the group together. He was very informative and allowed us plenty of time to enjoy each place without feeling rushed. We had plenty of stops there and back and saw some beautiful sites and hot water beach was a great experience. Would highly recommend if you’re apprehensive about guided tours as I was.

A fully impact on 2 days
Ride with Jeff. Lol! He was a great host. If you only have a short time in the country and want to see a lot this is the way to go no need to look for transportation or lodging it's all included in this trip. Make sure you got on some good walking shoes and be prepared to be bursting with excitement. The buses are used are pretty small but we were extra small on our tour which gave us a lot of time to see a lot more things with the smaller crowds. This is definitely best for short trips.

Best trip decision we made!
This 2-day tour was the absolute highlight of our trip. From The Glow Worm Caves (Waitomo) to Hobbiton to Rotorua and Taupo, we never stopped being amazed by the beauty and wonder that is New Zealand. Two days of jaw dropping magical experiences
The tour guide Pearl, went above & beyond. The sites were jaw dropping amazing. Hobbiton was so magical. The glow worm caves were spectacular. We enjoyed stopping in Rotorua, swimming in the thermal pool and stopping to wade in the warm thermal stream. The geothermal pools were a feast of incredible, natural beauty. Pearl was so helpful and anticipated our every need. The two day tour packed in a lot with extra stops of interest! We loved it and I would highly recommend it! Cheeky Kiwi Travel certainly provided us a safe trip out to The Hobbiton movie set, by Nickey. This was an anticipated destination for my husband while we visited New Zealand. We very much enjoyed the countryside on our way to & back from the Hobbiton movie set, and the tour on site of the Alexander Farm was truly fun & enjoyed. It provided our first full day in Auckland with a lovely memory. If you’re looking for something a bit different… then take in this tour. The “Shire” is so cute and interesting!!!

Amazing, even on a stormy day
Amazing trip! Even on a very rainy day our tour guide filled us with positive energy. Our guide gave us an overview into everyday life in New Zealand and how our trip was going to look like. The tour at Hobbiton which was operated by the local Hobbiton guide was great! He told us about small secrets of hobbit holes and all kinds of different ways the area was utilised during filming. Had a complimentary drink at the Green Dragon and also due to construction work happening at the site we got ''compensated'' with an amazing Green Dragon steins. This was very kind of them. On the way back we got even closer to our original driver who offered us some cassava chips and told us more about the history and legends of the local people. Also got to stop to try the famous New Zealand ice cream and try the Hokey Pokey flavour. Overall the tour was a 10/10 and would definitely reccomend it to every Middle-Earth fans like us.

A MUST do excursion when visiting New Zealand
Honestly, it's a 10/10 trip! Simon our 'Cheeky Kiwi' was great, super friendly and knowledgeable about New Zealand. He was great at engaging with the tour group. Loved our chats about British telly, made the 2 hour bus journey fly passed. The Hobbiton film set tour was amazing, 2 1/2 hours and we loved every minute. Plenty of time to take pictures and embrace the Hobbit environment. Big thumbs up to our tour guide Mike, really knows his 'Lord of the Rings' and 'Hobbit' facts, shows he loves his craft. The cafe was great, the pies are a must and we loved the drinks in the Green Dragon at the end.

Highlight of my New Zealand Trip
Wow, this was an amazing excursion for me. Just loved being on the set of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. Grant our guide was very knowledgeable of Auckland and gave great information en route. The cafe there had great pies and cakes. The best part was being able to visit the inside of a hobbits cottage. How quaint and cosy and I could just move in and live in the beautiful Hobbiton Village. Long travel to get there but it was so worth it. Love Loved it! A need to do if loved the movies.

Great tour to Hobbiton
After another provider cancelled at the last minute I was able to get onboard the Cheeky Kiwi day tour of Hobbiton (from Auckland). Our guide, Grant, was fantastic and full of useful information along the way and included a few tips to get the most out of the tour around Hobbiton. I will definitely look to use Cheeky Kiwi on my next trip to NZ.

Fun filled two day tour from Auckland
We chose this tour as it covers pretty much all the places we wanted to visit in the North, yet do not have to be concerned about driving around on our own. From Waitomo to Hobbiton Village, followed by Rotorua, Huka Falls and Taupo, we enjoyed ourselves immensely. This tour is well organised, with sufficient time for us to take in all the sights. The vehicle is also comfortable with water & snacks provided :-). We also stopped by at Hamilton Gardens on the way back to Auckland. And of course, last but not least, our guide Hanoz is most professional and took excellent care of us during the two days. Thanks to him, we will not hesitate to recommend Cheeky Kiwi Travel to our family and friends!

2 days well-spent
My partner and I really enjoyed this tour. The sites themselves were fun to visit, and it was nice to not have to worry about driving ourselves around. Our guide, John, was friendly and engaging. Only thing I wish we had known was that our hotel had access to a thermal bath - we would've packed our swimsuits!

Ein rundum schöner Ausflug mit wunderschönen Ausblicken
Die Abholung am Morgen vom angegebenen Pick-Up verlief reibungslos und pünktlich und man wurde freundlich begrüßt. Während der Fahrt wurden angemessene Pausen eingelegt und man erhielt nützliche Tipps über lokale Sehenswürdigkeiten und Einkehrmöglichkeiten, sowie historische Informationen über die Ortschaften. Der Hot Water Beach war der erste Stopp des Tages, man konnte mit der Schaufel selbständig sein eigenes thermales Loch graben oder einen Spaziergang am Strand neben den Wellen unternehmen. Nach einem ausgedehnten Mittagessen ging es zum Cathedral Cove, den man nach ca. 40min Laufweg (nicht zu unterschätzen, es gibt lange Steigungen und steile Treppen mit Geländer zum Strand!) erreicht. Es war insgesamt ein schöner Tag mit tollen Spots für Pausen und schönen Aussichten zum Festhalten.

More than a Tour, a real connection
It was a fantastic experience with our guide Jamie and her husband Kelvin. Jamie was more than just a guide. She shared the history of New Zealand and the Māori culture in a very engaging way. As a foreign visitor, I did not know much about this before. After listening to her stories, I felt a strong emotional connection to this place.
